We will pick you up from your hotel in Luxor and transport you in a modern air-conditioned vehicle to the Luxor Museum, located on the corniche with a stunning view of the River Nile in the heart of the city. The museum features some of Egypt’s finest antiquities, including a remarkable collection from Tutankhamun’s tomb, such as his funerary bed, model boats, and canopic jars. Luxor Museum is a stunning showcase of ancient Egyptian cultural heritage and also displays artifacts from periods following the end of pharaonic Egypt. Notably, the royal mummies of two pharaohs, Ahmose I and Ramesses I, are featured in the museum’s new extension, which includes a small visitor center. A highlight of the museum is the reconstruction of a wall from Akhenaten’s temple at Karnak, showcasing exquisite sculptures that had been buried for over 2,000 years. While the collection may be limited in size, the items are beautifully presented.
Next, we’ll visit the Mummification Museum, designed to enlighten visitors about the ancient art of mummification. This practice aimed to preserve the deceased’s body for their journey into the afterlife among the gods. The Ancient Egyptians employed embalming techniques on various species, not just humans. In this unique museum, you will find mummies of cats, fish, and crocodiles, as well as tools used in the process. Additionally, the entrance features a collection of well-preserved mummy cases from the drier climate of Upper Egypt, alongside a statue of Anubis, the jackal-headed god who guides the dead to the underworld.
After your tour, we will return you to your hotel in Luxor. The tour includes a private air-conditioned bus, an English-speaking guide, and entrance fees.
Half Day Tour At East Bank
Enjoy a convenient pickup from your hotel in Luxor for an exciting excursion on the East Bank. You’ll explore two of Upper Egypt’s most magnificent temples: Karnak and Luxor.
Start your day at the Karnak Temple, a monumental site dedicated to the gods Amon, Mut, and their son Khonsu. This impressive complex was built from the Old Kingdom through the Graeco-Roman period, showcasing the legacy of various pharaohs as it expanded over time. As you delve deeper into the complex, you’ll encounter ruins dating back over 4,000 years.
Next, visit Luxor Temple, which was once connected to Karnak by a two-kilometer Avenue of Sphinxes. This temple was originally constructed by Amunhotep III during the 18th Dynasty and completed by Ramesses II in the 19th Dynasty. King Ramses II, the most renowned ruler of this period, reigned for around 67 years. Luxor Temple has withstood floods, invasions, and millennia of weathering.
This private tour allows you to set your own pace at each temple and includes free time for further exploration. Finally, you’ll be driven back to your hotel in Luxor. The tour includes a private air-conditioned bus, an English-speaking guide, and entrance fees.
